Energetix announces the winner of the Energetix Excellence Green Lighting Award

February 12, 2009: In conjunction with the Rochester Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society, Energetix announces the winner of the 2009 "Energetix Excellence in Green Lighting Award." The annual award is given to a local company and designer who implement a lighting project that has a positive impact on the environment.

Submissions for the award were presented at the IES Section's January membership meeting. The members voted via secret ballot and the winner was announced at the Electrical Association of Rochester's February 9, 2009 celebration of the start of Electrical Week.

This year's winning project was a lighting upgrade at Roberts Communications High Falls District offices. The project was designed and submitted by our own Philip Nelson with input from Paul Hennessy of Light Spec.

The project included the replacement of combination metal halide/high pressure sodium indirect lighting fixtures with new four lamp T5HO lighting fixtures. The old fixtures demanded 753 Watts each. The new fixtures demand only 240 Watts each. The project saves Roberts over 113,000 kWh/year and increased average light levels. With a simple payback of less than two years, the project's financial performance is very impressive.

Energetix will be sponsoring this annual award through 2012.

Energetix announces the winner of the Energetix Excellence in
Green Lighting Award

February 11, 2008: The 2008 "Energetix Excellence in Green Lighting Award" winners are SWBR Architects and Leo A Daly. Their architectural design brings in an abundance of sunlight and dims the house-lights accordingly to save energy in the Roberts Wesleyan College Academic Library.

The design includes energy efficient T-5 fluorescent lighting and innovative geothermal heating/cooling systems. Interestingly, the combined use of T-5 lighting, geothermal heating/cooling, windows systems used, and amount of insulation used results in the library being 39 percent more energy efficient than what the New York State Energy Code recommends, according to NYSERDA.

Natural light is leveraged throughout the building to extend energy efficiency. For instance, to reflect the direct rays of the sun and bounce light to specific areas, white paint is consciously used throughout and solar shades are used in key places.
